Celebrating Academic Success: Brevard Public 麻豆高清 District Earns "B" Grade

Viera, FL – Brevard Public 麻豆高清 (BPS) received a high "B," overall, from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). These grades were released on Monday, Dec. 11, for the 2022-2023 school year. BPS’ score increased by 5 percentage points, bringing the district close to an “A” grade. Additionally, we saw a significant increase in the percentage of our high school graduates who earned additional accreditation through AP, IB, or AICE programs, Dual Enrollment, and/or industry certifications. This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our educators, students, and the broader community.

In the latest round of school assessments, more than half of BPS received grades of "A" or "B" for the second consecutive year. The breakdown reveals that 30 schools achieved an "A" rating, and an additional 17 schools earned a commendable "B" rating, showcasing the district's ongoing commitment to academic excellence.

Beyond the district grade, we are proud to highlight the performance of Brevard County students on the Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading, Mathematics, and Science (FAST). Across the board, our students outperformed the state average, showcasing their academic prowess and dedication to learning.

While acknowledging these accomplishments, we are also mindful of the challenges faced by some schools, as reflected in the "C" and "D" ratings, as well as the "I" designations. BPS is actively collaborating with the state to finalize grades for the three schools marked as incomplete, ensuring a thorough and accurate evaluation.

“We should certainly celebrate the schools that increased a letter grade and those schools which maintained an A grade,” Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell said. “We need to congratulate the staff and students at those schools for a job well done, and for the schools that did not register as strong a performance as we had hoped, your hard work is also appreciated and valued. We must remember that 2022-2023 was our first experience with new standards, and these are considered baseline scores and baseline grades. So, we now know where we stand with these new assessments. This helps us identify the work we need to do.”

As we look ahead, our commitment to fostering an environment of academic excellence remains unwavering. BPS will continue to prioritize the success and well-being of every student, working collaboratively with educators, parents, and the community to create a foundation for lifelong learning and achievement.

The metrics provided by the FLDOE for the 2022-2023 academic year did not consider the learning gains made by students throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. This omission is attributed, in part, to these metrics serving as the new baseline standard for each school’s growth. However, BPS would like to emphasize that student learning gains will be factored into the calculation of school grades for the 2023-2024 academic year by FLDOE.

We extend our gratitude to all those who contribute to the success of BPS, and we look forward to another year of continued growth and excellence.
